After searching everywhere on the internet and on the forums here I have found no solution. The only post I found was from 2012 describing exactly what is happening to me but I have found no resolution.

I enter the dungeon and trigger the duel. Gortez asks to be set free - there is the catch.
I have tried to interact with the winch on the first move -
I get the circle with the line through it not permitting this
I tried to move a character one space in front of the winch lever-
I get the circle with the line through it not permitting this
I killed every enemy and then tried the winch lever -
I get the circle with the line through it not permitting this
I killed the guards leaving the captain alive and tried the winch lever -
I get the circle with the line through it not permitting this
I killed the captain and left the guards alive and tried the lever -
I get the circle with the line through it not permitting this
I noted something that looked like another winch lever on the other side of the bridge and tried to move this each step noted above -
I get the circle with the line through it not permitting this on the new lever

I am a level 14 Witchdoctor if this matters

What have I missed? Is there an item, a move, or a combination of moves that I have not tried?

Really need some help on this to advance

You need to contact Support to get this resolved, there is no item involved or special move.

I seem to remember that the character that activates the Winch may need to be a Melee type.

If that is not the case, contact support either using the help menu above (the Orange Question Mark) or e-mailing them at support@pirate101.com. If you e-mail them, include your account name (NOT password) and the Pirate you are having trouble with. Be patient. It can take 48 hours for them to respond.
