Difference between Staffy weapon and Staffy Shooty

I'm a bit confused on what the difference is between a Staffy weapon and then a Staffy combo weapon. Staffs already have range, but when you get a combo like a Staffy/Slashy you still have range, but the damage is weaker. What is the point to having a combo over just a plain vanilla version of a weapon?

If you use a Staffy/Shooty you can use powers that require a shooty weapon (like Hurricane Round) but still attack with Will.

Same goes for Slashy (you can use Assassin's Strike, etc)

You can use Shooty powers if you have a Shooty weapon equipped.
