How do you manage your companions?

I just want to know how other players manage their companions, like which talents do you give your companions, which epics do you give them? How you place your companions, like is your first mate your favourite companion or your newest companion?
For me I kind of balance my companions' talents and epics x. x and I always make my newest companion my first mate :P

Now I manage my companions differently, giving them more of an offensive talent-set and epics that let them attack allot! This is so useful, especially to my Crokagator which used to die easily, but now hardly gets hit :D
