Elevator Crane in Banditoad Trail

When you use the last Elevator Crane at the top of the railway in Banditoad Trail, you immediately enter Banditoad Gulch. There is enough room to come down in Banditoad Trail and enter the cave to get to Banditoad Gulch, so why do we immediately enter Banditoad Gulch?. I use the last Elevator Crane to check for the Treasure Chest that is sometimes near there.

Another thing is that the entrance to the Elevator Crane from the floor of Banditoad Trail is not always at the gate. This happens at about 3 of the 5 Elevator Cranes.
