Promotion for Sky Hunter?

So, I just got my new companion in Cool Ranch, a Bison Scout named Sky Hunter, and i'd like to know if you can promote him. If so, is it a gold promotion, or a quest promotion?

The Bison Scout does get a promotion quest in the game at some point. I'm not sure which level as I didn't pay attention to that part and I am fairly certain that it is not a pay quest, meaning there will be quests that you will need to do to promote him.

The bison gets promoted later in the game at about the levels 35-40.
